Homer, Alaska
We left Wenatchee 3 weeks ago. It has been quite a trip. We’re amazed at the wildlife we’ve seen on this trip. Yesterday (Monday, July 12th) we took a trip from Homer to Seldovia. This is a little town of 300 people about 1 ½ hours by boat from Homer. We rode on a nice vessel called the Discovery. We went by Gull Island, Eldred Passage, and Elephant Rock. The sky was a beautiful blue and the water was blue/green. The mountains in the distance were covered in snow. All in all it was a perfect day to be out on the water.
We saw a whale, lots of sea otters, a few puffin, eagles, and many other birds. We left at 11:00 in the morning, arrived in Seldovia at 1:30, had a nice lunch, rode our bikes around the town, and boarded the boat for the ride back to Homer at 4:00 – arriving back in Homer about 5:15.
When we visited Homer 5 years ago on our trip to Alaska we couldn’t see the mountains that well, but this time we’ve had some great views. We’ve had parts of the trip where the scenery has been stunning and then one area that was beautiful 5 years ago we couldn’t even see the mountains as it was raining so hard. I guess it’s just the luck of the draw weather wise here in Alaska.
