A little road trip

We took a 3 week road trip.  First we went to Pendelton, Oregon for the USA West Square Dance festival.  From there we drove along highway 12 to Lolo, Montana.  We love this drive as it runs along the Clearwater River and then the Lochsa River.  Both are really beautiful.  These rivers are how Lewis and Clark made their way west in their expedition more than 200 years ago.  We stayed for 3 nights about 10 miles west of Lolo Pass in a wonderful Forest Service campground.  Quite the good deal - with the senior pass $7.50 per night (with electricity) for the fifth wheel.

From there we went to Lolo, Mt which is 7 miles from Missoula.  While in Missoula we rode the carousel on the riverfront.  We danced in Lolo where we were staying.  After leaving Lolo, we drove to Lewis and Clark Caverns and spent the night.  The next morning we did a 2 hour tour.  No - Lewis and Clark didn't discover the caverns and never saw them.

Next we drove to Island Park, Idaho 22 miles from West Yellowstone.  We were travelling with square dance friends, who knew a couple that lived in Island Park.  They had room for both of us to park our rigs.  We stayed for 4 nights.  We spent 3 days touring Yellowstone.  We were there to attend the Knothead Jamboree in West Yellowstone.  It was their 59th year of holding this square dance event.  The dancing is held in the Union Pacific Dining Room Hall - a beautiful hall with a huge fireplace.  We had a lot of fun dancing and even won a registration for next year.  Not sure if we will attend as it is 600 miles from Wenatchee to West Yellowstone.
