On the road FINALLY!!!

Thursday morning, July 14th, we headed north to Alaska. We made it to Alice Lake Provincial Park north of Squamish on the Sea to Sky Highway that goes to Whistler. It was a really beautiful park. The next day we drove north continuing along this highway. This is a very interesting road with lots of single lane bridges and hairpin turns. We spent the night in a forest service campground. On Saturday we continued on to just south of Prince George for a stay at the Duncan golf course. It was great. We stayed right on a lake right next to the course. Then we stayed two nights at Prince George where we met up with Sue and Richard. On Monday afternoon the other two couples (Sandy and Dale and Christine and Steve) joined up with us. We were now ready to head north. About 10 miles north of Prince George, we spotted a moose and calf just off the road in a small lake.

Of course, the Alcan doesn’t officially start until Dawson Creek. We drove there and spent the night at mile 0 campground. They have a really interesting little historic village that we toured. They had antique cars, fire engines, and old cabins that they had moved to the site and setup with antique furniture from the early 1900’s. We spent the next night in a provincial campground at Prophet River.. We had a nice fire and took a walk down to the river. On the way to Munch Lake we saw a Cariboo

The next night we spent at Muncho Lake at the Northern Rockies RV park. It was right on the lake. But, very rainy and cold. After leaving Muncho lake we drove to Laird hotsprings. Steve, Bob, and Connie went in the hot springs. The hot springs felt really great. Also, saw lots of Buffalo by Laird Hot springs. Then onto Watson Lake. We stayed at a Yukon provincial park right on Watson Lake. The town of Watson Lake has the signpost forest which is pretty interesting. The weather finally warmed up and the sun came out.

On Saturday, we then drove to Mukluk Annie’s. On the way there we stopped at a falls that was really beautiful. This is a great stop right on a lake. They have free camping. Of course, they hope you will eat their salmon barbeque. We had that for dinner (or ribs, etc) and then with dinner they give you an hour boat ride on the lake. It was really nice out there. We sat up top on the boat and it was not too cold. Sunday morning we drove to Whitehorse.
