A day in Amsterdam

We met our tour group on Satuday afternoon. After the meeting we walked to an Indonesian restauraunt for dinner. Next a local guide, Hans, led us through the streets of Haarlem. He pointed out lots of interesting aspects to the town. All of the old buildings have to be kept in their same historic manner. The goverment helps to fund the repairs - but they are still very expensive for the building ownders.

Sunday dawned a little rainy and cool. We set off after breakfast to Amsterdam via the train. We hoped on a tram from there to the Anne Frank house. We toured the house where Anne Frank and her family lived for 3 years during the war.

We walked through Amsterdam after the tour and had lunch. Next we had to divide into two groups. Connie went to the Van Gogh museum and Bob went to the Rijksmuseum. Next Connie went to the Rijksmuseum and Bob went to the Heiniken brewery tour. We took a canal cruise and then walked through the red light distict. Sure enough, the women were standing in the doorways displaying their wares. We returned to Haarlem for dinner and bed.

Next - we're onto Germany. But first today we will stop at a big ourdoor flower market. More on our adventures in the next post.
