Fiesta Bowl Parade

During the past week we celebrated both Connie's dad's birthday (he was 86 on the the 23rd) and Christmas with Connie's mom and dad. Christmas day we had dinner at Harrah's casino south of Phoenix. Bob won $225.00 after betting about $6.00. He won this while waiting for the buffet tickets to be bought!

Tuesday we went to Lost Dutchman State park east of Apache Junction. We took a 2 1/2 mile hike and had a picnic lunch. It was a really nice day - temperatures in the 70's.

Thursday, Bob filed for social security. There are advantages to getting older. Friday Connie went to the doctor and found out she has shingles. What a fun end to 2006.

Saturday we went to the Fiesta Bowl Parade. We bought reserved seats in the bleachers. Connie's mom and dad went with us. The weather was nice - sunny and about 60 degrees. Tonight and on New Year's eve we're headed to square dances.

Happy New Year to everyone reading the blog!!

Desert Botanical Garden Luminarias

Wednesday evening we went to the Phoenix Desert Botanical Garden. This was an evening event where the paths were lined with luminarias. The garden had over 6,000 luminaria bags. Additionally, there was various entertainment throughout the garden. We listened to a barbershop quartet, a handbell choir, and a guitar player. In addition, we watched the Phoenix Fire Dancers. We also opted to have dinner at the garden. It was fun and cold!!

We've square danced several times since our last posting. We danced Monday night, Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. We also went to our Tuesday afternoon round dance lesson.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Another week in the sun

Seems time is flying by as we stay here in Mesa. We haven't done a whole lot that would involve picture taking. We have mainly been square and round dancing. That was one of the reasons we came to Mesa. We're taking round dance lessons on Tuesday afternoons and DBD (dance by definition) plus lessons on Thursday mornings. Also, we have been to several evening dances and last Sunday to a special Christmas dance.

Connie has been again working on her scrapbooking. Bob has taken up stained glass and has joined the stained glass club here in the park. He is making a kitty cat suncatcher. It will be orange and white - just like our favorite cat.

We've made reservations to go the Botanical Garden on Wednesday where they have luminairies (candles in bags), food, and entertainment. So check back for some pictures from this event.

Boyce Thompson Arboretum

This last week or so since my last posting has gone by pretty quickly. We went out to dinner with Connie's mom and dad on T-day to the Arizona Opry. The food was pretty good and the show was great. We really enjoyed it.

Since then, we've gone square dancing three times. We also attempted to go a beginning phase 3 round dance class, but had the wrong day of the week. So, we will try it again tomorrow - Tuesday.

We also made reservations to go to Europe next May. We're really excited about this trip. It's a Rick Steves tour. We've heard these are pretty good trips, so we think it will be great.

We also made a drive to Casa Grande to see Connie's mom and dad. They asked us to get a new dishwasher for them, so we bought it at Camping World and delivered it to their door.

Today, Monday, we went to the Boyce-Thompson Arboretum. It was great. We walked a couple of miles and saw lots and lots of cactus and other Arizona plants. The weather was really pleasant - about 70 degrees.
