A beautiful fall day

Over the last couple of weeks we have babysat for grandson, Hudson, did a couple of hikes, went square dancing and worked in our yard.

We had Hudson all day this past Thursday and Friday. He is learning how to stand up. He still is scooting rather than crawling on all fours, but I'm sure he will be crawling on all fours very soon. Hudson even went to the daycare at our local health club so that Bob and I could do a weight lifting workout class together.

Last weekend we had friends, Paul and Carol, over for the weekend. We attended the dog agility trials here at the local park on Saturday. It's so much fun to watch the dogs make their way around the course leaping over hurdles, running through tubes, up and down a teeter-totter, etc. On Sunday we did a hike together. There is an old wagon road that goes between Wenatchee and Yakima. We drove up that for a ways and then got out and walked up the road for a mile or so. There were lots of hunters up in the area, so we made sure to stay on the road.

Today we drove to Leavenworth and then up the Icicle River road. The road washed out this last spring so before we could get to our hike we had to walk a little more than a mile on the bypass. We then did a 3 1/2 mile loop hike. We saw some really beautiful fall colors. Fall is one of my favorite times of the year. We're hoping to do some more hiking before the snow flies.

Winthrop, WA

This past weekend we drove to Winthrop - a cute Western themed town located about 2 hours north of Wenatchee. We spent a night at the Forest Service campground at Early Winters near Mazama and then moved to the KOA in Winthrop for 3 nights.

While there we did a hike up to Goats Peak Lookout. The hike was about 5 miles round trip with a 1400 foot elevation gain. It was pretty much uphill the whole way. We also went with about 30 other dancers to a Falls Creek Falls about 15 miles north of Winthrop.

We traveled to Winthrop for the annual barn dance. It's a square dance weekend with 3 callers. There were about 25 squares, so it was pretty well attended. We camped next to some dancers we know from Yakima.

We came home on Sunday with another couple we know from the 'west' side of the mountains. They parked their motorhome in our driveway for the night.

Tuesday we did a hike on Tronson Ridge with our daughter-in-law, Toddi, and grandson, Hudson. Of course, Hudson being only 7 months old didn't technically do any hiking. He rode in a pack on his mom's front. The hike was a ridge walk, but still had a fair amount of up and down. We hiked about 5 miles total. We also think we saw cougar prints and thought for sure we heard a rattlesnake.

Also, on the 17th of September, the Wenatchee World did an article on square dancing. I had instigated the article back in March, but didn't want it to run until just before our lessons. Here is a link to the article: http://wenatcheeworld.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080917/NEIGHBORS/709179990
I'm not sure how long the article will stay out there, but it is there today (Oct 1).
We're very happy with the response from the article. We have about 8 couples who have come to lessons, which is a pretty good showing.

Grandson, Hudson

We took a hike with our daughter-in-law, Toddi, and grandson, Hudson, on Tuesday. Hudson had a nice nap while being carried in the pack
