Haines, Alaska
We made it to a little corner of Alaska. Haines is located near Skagway. We left Whitehorse, Yukon and drove to Haines Junction, Yukon. From there we drove south to a very nice campground called Million Dollar Falls. We spent the night and enjoyed a nice fire. The Yukon government campgrounds are great. Huge picnic tables, nice level sites, and free firewood and all for $12.00 a night. This morning we drove south to Haines and what a beautiful drive it was. The mountains along this stretch of highway are really beautiful. We saw two grizzlies on our drive.
Once in Haines we stopped at a great bakery, then had to work off the goodies by taking a hike. The hike was through beautiful forest to the beach. Once we reached the beach it was miserable with lots of biting deer flies. So, we headed back and had lunch in Haines. We'll post some pictures in a day or so - check back to the blog soon!

Whitehorse, Yukon
We've made it Whitehorse, which sits along the mighty Yukon river. The weather is warm and sunny today, (Sunday, June 27,2010). We had some very rainy weather on the drive up - almost torrential rains and hail! We didn't see any wildlife yesterday, but it was a beautiful drive. We drove from Watson Lake to about 30 miles south of Whitehorse. We stayed at a Yukon campground - Marsh Lake - $12.00 and includes free firewood - what a deal!

Bears, Buffalo, and Moose
We're in Watson Lake, Yukon on our trip to Alaska. We've driven 612 miles up the Alacan, plus another 900 miles or so to get to the start of the Alcan. We've seen lots of wildlife. Today we saw 4 bears, 1 moose, and a bunch of buffalo. Before that we had seen 3 moose and 1 bear. Pictures on the next post!
