Old Sturbridge Village
While in Springfield, MA where we attended the 64th National Square Dance Convention we took a drive to Old Sturbridge Village. This is a living museum that has recreated a village from the late 1700's to 1930. The weather was perfect. They had lots of people around in period costumes. It was very enjoyable. Plus, with Bob's military service we got in for free. What a deal.
Campobello
Franklin Delano Roosevelt had a family retreat in New Brunswick on Campobello Island. This beautiful home is completely restored and setup to be like it was when used by the family in the 1920's and 1930's. We had attended an event called 'Tea with Eleanor'. We were served tea and ginger cookies in a lovely cottage dining room at the Hubbard cottage. The tea was served on linen-clothed tables with fine china. It was very elegant. The day was beautiful. After tea we took a hike through the very buggy woods. Next we had lunch at a wonderful restaurant where we sat outdoors overlooking the water. All, in all, a very wonderful day on the island. Also, we discovered that the lighthouse right on the point when entering from the USA is called Mulholland Point.

Anne of Green Gables
To prepare for our trip to Prince Edward Island we watched the movie of Anne of Green Gables. This is a production by Kevin Sullivan. It was 18 hours - and we thoroughly enjoyed all of it. We checked the movie set our from our local library. For those who like Downton Abbey it has lots of similarity as Anne wore some beautiful clothes in the movie.
Today we visited Green Gables house. We also walked on Lover's Lane. The weather was nice and sunny - a perfect day for a visit. Tonight we have tickets to the musical Anne of Green Gables in Charlottetown. Tomorrow we head south - we may even make it back to the good ole USA.

Our trip to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island
Like one of our square dance callers says - so far so good. We have had a pretty trouble free trip. The engine has performed flawlessly. We had another small problem with our heater, but figured out what was causing it and it is now fixed.
Friday, June 12th we drove to Baddeck on Cape Breton (still Nova Scotia). We stayed in an RV park there, caught up on laundry, and drove towards Sydney for a tour of Louisbourg Fortress on Saturday. It was pouring when we arrived and did a 1 hour tour with a guide. But, fortunately, it quit raining and we were able to walk around a little more with out getting too wet.
Sunday, June 14th we drove north to do Cape Breton Highlands National Park. We drove about 60 miles - took us a while - the road was rough and stopped at a campground at South Harbor. We took the jeep out for a tour and drove as far north as we could to a place called Meat Cove. Where it got it's name we don't know. The views were wonderful, but it was very windy.
The next day dawned beautiful. I had wanted to do a whale watching tour. We went out on the 10 am tour from Pleasant Bay. We did see one whale twice - not much activity out there. And, we saw several seals. It was fun and beautiful. The ride was two hours on a 9 person (plus pilot) zodiac. They dressed us up in warm insulated suits. It was quite comfortable.
We drove a few more miles and stopped in a campground right on a bluff overlooking the ocean. From the campground we did a 4 mile round trip hike to a waterfall. We kept hoping to see a moose, but never did. The wind blew like crazy that night. The next day it was cloudy and windy. We drove to the Woods Island Ferry where we just missed the 3:00 boat. So, we waited for the 6:15. It was fine - we took a nap and I cooked dinner in the motorhome while waiting. The ferry delivered us to Prince Edward Island 75 minutes later. By then it was raining pretty good. We stopped about 3 miles away in a provincial park right on the water. We were the only ones in the campground. But, it had 50 amp service and all we needed for the night.
We drove about 60 miles to a campground near Charlottetown, PEI. We'll be here for two nights. Tomorrow we will go see Anne of Green Gables area. Also, we have tickets to a musical about Anne of Green Gables.

Lunenberg, NS
Today, June 8th, we drove to Lunenberg. This is A beautiful old town that was laid out by the British and has some very colorful homes. It is also home to the Bluenose II which is a sailing ship that is a copy of the original from the 1920's. We were fortunate to see it come into the harbor from a trial run as it is being restored. We also visited an old lighthouse at Ft Point and did the foghorn. They had cute tshirts that said "I tooted". The weather was sunny but a little beezy.

Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia
Saturday, June 6th, we stayed near Grande Pre, Nova Scotia. This is a farming and winery area. It's in the Annapolis Valley. We woke up to torrential downpours. But, that didn't stop us from visiting 4 wineries. We had a lovely lunch at our first stop. Bob really enjoyed his chowder and mussels that he had. My lunch was wonderful also.
Saturday evening the rain finally stopped and the sun came out. Sunday morning we drove to Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia. We're in a beautiful campground called Dunromin. We opted for a waterfront site. The campground is fairly empty so Buddy really enjoyed getting out and sniffing around. After setting up we headed out for Bob to have some scallops for lunch. Digby (just south of us) is suppose to be the scallop capital. We didn't go to Digby, but to a nearby café. Bob again really enjoyed his seafood (chowder and pan fried scallops). I had a hamburger! After lunch we toured the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens. This garden was recently named the Canada's 2015 Garden of the Year.
After touring the garden we did the historic walking tour around Annapolis Royal. In 1605 the area was settled by a small group of French explorers two years before Jamestown, Virginia, and 3 years before the founding of Quebec, and 15 years before Plymouth Rock. It was first named Port-Royal until 1710 when the British captured the area and renamed the town.

Quebec City
We made it to Quebec City. This is a long drive from Washington state. There are a lot of rough roads between Sault Ste. Marie and Quebec city, plus some nice ones. There is also lots of construction. There were miles and miles of it in North Dakota and in Canada. But, we made it here with no mishaps. We towed the jeep from Montana without unhitching it.
Tuesday, June 2, we arrived in a nice park in Levis. This town is across the river from Quebec city, We took the ferry across. The ferry puts you right into old town. There is parking right at the ferry terminal for $6 a day, so it's a very easy way to get into Quebec city.
Now lets talk about the rain. Rain, rain, go away. That's how we felt yesterday. It was very wet. But, we wondered around the old city and had a lovely late lunch/early dinner. We caught the 5:00 ferry back to Levis (where we're staying) and called it a day.
